Clearfield is situated in Davis County of Utah, United States. It is also the main city of the Ogden-Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area. During the 1940s the city experienced a rapid growth. This was mainly due to the Hill Air Force Base location within the neighboring city of Ogden. Since the 1950s, Clearfield is one of the many US cities and towns that have become suburbs and "bedroom" communities from nearby larger cities.

History of Clearfield, Utah

The City of Clearfield was one of the last places to be settled in the northern region of Davis County. On November 3, 1907 Clearfield received a separate ward from Syracuse of Utah. It wasn't long before several families decided to make Clearfield their new home. Clearfield soon became a quiet, peaceful farming community. By 1930, Clearfield already had a population of 799 residents. The formation of the Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah produced a major population growth for Clearfield in the 1940s. This Air Force was the major employer for residents of Clearfield and surrounding areas. From the 1950s to present day, Clearfield has become a "bedroom" community for close by larger cities.

As of 2000, it was determined that the City of Clearfield held about 25,974 people, 7,921 households, and 6,265 families. The racial demographics of the city was 83.18% White, 3.61% African-American, 1.61% Native American, 2.81% Asian, 0.28% Pacific Islander, 4.84% from other races, and 3.67% from two or more races. 10.58% of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race. The median income for a household then was $38,946, and the median income for a family was $39,902. The city's per capita income then was $13,945.

Public schools in Clearfield from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are served by the Davis School District. The city is home to 5 elementary schools, 1 junior high school, and 1 high school. Clearfield is also home to two post secondary institutions. These are: University of Phoenix and Certified Careers Institute. In addition, Weber State University (Ogden), Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College (Ogden), and Davis Applied Technology College (Kaysville) are three other institutions in close proximity to Clearfield.
